The Bratislava Guitar Quartet is a unique ensemble that has been performing on the concert scene since 1995. The quartet has successfully established its international reputation, as is confirmed by invitations to music festivals, recital programs, radio and television appearances, and numerous CD recordings.
In addition to invitations to international guitar festivals (in the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Serbia, and Great Britain), the ensemble is a frequent guest at significant music festivals (Bratislava Music Festival, Epoché, Mitte-Europa, Musica Nobilis), and concerts at renowned music venues (Slovak Philharmonic, Rudolfinum Prague, Košice Philharmonic, ŠKO Žilina, etc.).
It also performs its own recital programs in European capitals such as Madrid, Paris, Prague, and Vienna. Among its successful projects, the quartet also values its numerous collaborations with orchestras (Capella Istropolitana, ŠKO Žilina, Musica Cassovia, etc.) and conductors (Peter Breiner, Oliver Dohnányi, Gabriele de Esteban, Robert Mareček, Maroš Potokár), thanks to which several concert works for guitar quartet and orchestra (Breiner, Burlas, Gismonti – Brouwer, Rodrigo) have been performed.
The ensemble appreciates its close artistic contact with composers from the domestic and international scene, among whom Peter Breiner, Leo Brouwer, Martin Burlas, Mathias Duplessy, Vladimír Godár, Pavol Malovec, Apostolos Paraskevas, and Peter Zagar stand out. The quartet's artistic projects also include collaborations with singers (Eva Šušková, Petra Noskaiová), guitarist and cuatro player Silfredo Perez, or the renowned Moyzes Quartet.
The quartet's recordings include Recital (Akcent, 2000), Šeban – Godár – Breiner – Kolkovič (Hevhetia, 2009) and Slovak music for guitar quartet (Diskant, 2011), which include several world premieres of works by Slovak composers dedicated to the ensemble (Breiner, Burlas, Krák, Malovec...).
The ensemble's repertoire consists of original compositions of 20th-century music, which also form the core of the current program focused on original music for guitar quartet (Assad, Brouwer, Duplessy, Malovec, Nousis, Rodrigo, York, etc.). The second part of the repertoire consists of numerous arrangements of a wide range of music, including Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, and 20th-century music (Byrd, Praetorius, Carulli, Bizet, de Falla, Poulenc, Stravinsky)
